A Poker Betting Strategy Equilibrium

Almost everyone knows how important a tight-aggressive poker play stance is. This means a tight hand selection and an aggressive poker betting strategy. It helps keep us ahead in the game and in poker money management. But there's a downside to keeping this style rigid.

First, if we keep to a tight-aggressive play and poker betting strategy for long we'd be easily labeled thus and effortlessly placed on a hand. Once we start betting aggressively opponents will know we have a strong hand and fold before they should, leaving us with little to win. We should be careful about showing this poker tell.

We remedy this by mixing our play with a loose poker betting strategy now and then. This means we have to willingly risk losing at times, playing playable hands limping-in. We make sure we lose controllably - meaning we don't lose a lot of money - but when a strong hand comes along we bet super aggressively to win the pot.

When we mix our poker betting strategy we avoid being labeled a tight player and an aggressive bettor. Opponents will find it quite hard to place us on a hand - are we a tight-aggressive or a tight-passive or a loose-passive player? But we must make sure we calculate how much we are willing to loose and offset that by targeting big pots with good hands.

In fact, at times we have to project a maniac playing style though actually we are tight-aggressive at heart. A maniac poker player plays poker hands loosely and yet has an aggressive poker betting strategy. Say, we have 8c-7c on the button and 3 players slow play. We raise 7 times the size of the big blind and all players fold. Then we show our suited connectors to hint them on our play style.

The next time around they'll think we're again bluffing when actually we're betting big because we have a strong hand. So they'll call or re-raise our bet. And that's when we win a nice big pot. They think our K-K is just another suited 7-8. So now they're at a big loss whether we are playing loosely or tightly, when in fact we are tight with hand plays and aggressive with our poker betting strategy.

Thus we see how smart it is to mix our poker betting strategy with our tight hand play to get an equilibrium. This camouflages our real play and bet tactic that confuses opponents about our next poker move.
